Forest Science

This half term Year 5 are incorporating their science topic of ‘Separating Mixtures’ into their Forest School sessions. This week everyone had a great time being outdoor scientists. First we used natural resources to create diagrams showing different states of matter. After this some children explored the mixture station and used magnets and sieves to separate materials. Vertebrates and Invertebrates

Maple have been comparing human anatomy to other animals this afternoon. We worked in pairs to try and identify which animals have backbones and which don’t. We discussed which of these animals had exoskeletons and which had endoskeletons. We classified the animals into vertebrates and invertebrates.

How do wheels move?

We had our first Design Technology lesson in Year 1 this afternoon and were learning about how wheels work. We investigated how wheels move on a variety of different objects like cars, shopping trolleys and bikes and we also learnt some new vocabulary. We then we had a go at creating our own simple version of a wheel mechanism which included an axle, wheel and axle holder.  

Forest School Fun

Year 5 have enjoyed their first session in the forest this week. This half term, we are doing forest science and investigating materials using the outdoor environment. Today we focused on how to keep safe in the area and discussed the rules. We talked about how to look after the area and explored the natural resources. Our last week in Reception

We have really enjoyed our last week in Reception and have had lots of fun. We went on a scavenger hunt to see if we could find our friend’s faces and ticked them off our list. Welcome back year 4 Hawthorn

We were so glad to be back together today. We have a fun filled day with party games, karaoke and a water fight. Miss Ainsworth was so naughty and filled up the bucket to cheat mwah! The children have had a lovely first day back. If you are isolating tomorrow Miss Ainsworth will do a teams meeting at 10am so we all get the chance to say goodbye.

River journeys as we transition to high school

As part of our transition to high school, we created rivers to symbolise our journey through primary school.   After this, we transformed our rivers into boats and took them to Queen’s Park. We then let them set sail down the River Roach to show that our journey continues, even after we leave St. Luke’s.
