This week we have been having lots of fun and creating lots of mess making volcanoes ready for us to carry out explosion experiments next week.
Our new geography topic Tremors has been really fun so far! We have been learning about how volcanoes are made and learning about the three different types of rock – Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic rock. We did an experiment with Coke and Mentos and used it describe how an volcano erupts. In today’s lesson we made our own volcanoes using papier mache. It was very messy! We are looking forward to painting them when Read more
This week we have written our own firework poems. We began the week in the immersive room watching a firework display and gathering vocabulary, we then looked at good examples of firework poetry highlighting the key features. We then wrote a poem in groups focussing on onomatopoeia before writing a success criteria and creating our own poems.
In science, we have been learning about the colassal sizes of the solar system. We scaled down the solar system sizes to recreate the solar system. Dividing by 1,000,000,000 is trickier than it looks.
Everyone has been working really hard this week to make some lovely poppies to add to our field. The children really enjoyed making them and learning all about the importance of Remembrance Day.
Thank you to everyone who came to Reception’s shared learning session and shared lunch. All of the children seemed very happy to have you in school. We hope you enjoyed it! Thank you! We hope you all enjoyed the lunch…

From this we have already been recruited to help in Year 3 with their PowerPoint lessons. Mrs Ellison gave Read more
This week in Reception, we have been learning about different celebrations. We started off by throwing powder paint on the floor and shouting the sounds that fireworks made. We had a ‘BOOOM’, ‘BAAAAANG’, ‘ZOOOOOM’ and ‘WHIZZZZZZ’. Once our fireworks were all Read more
This half-term in R.E, we have been looking at the topic of Harvest. We learnt all about how and why Christians celebrate Harvest and then looked how it is celebrated in other faiths. We looked in paticular at the Jewish festival of Sukkot and built our own Sukkahs.
