Today, the whole school completed an assembly on stranger danger. The assembly focussed on helping children to understand what a stranger is, how to recognise unsafe situations, and what to do if they ever feel worried or unsure. Today, Year 5 were able to take part in a workshop about road safety. The children were able to go outside with two visitors working with Greater Manchester Police to talk about road safety and how we can stay safe near the roads. In Geography this half term, Year 5 have been focusing on slums – particularly Dharavi in Mumbai, India and Rocinha in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Today, we working in groups to figure out what were the biggest challenges faced by people living in slums – sanitation, education, crime, jobs, health and housing. In this lesson, the children acted out the story of the Prodigal Son. They took turns playing the son, the father, and other characters, showing what happened when the son left home, spent all his money, and came back. By pretending to be the characters, the children explored how they might have felt and learned about saying sorry and forgiving others. We had another great week in Forest School with Miss Brown! This week we made s’mores! So yummy and tasty. We talked about fire safety and being sensible around her fire. We absolutely loved jumping in the muddy puddles with our friends! We worked in teams to help each other create the s’mores and also support our friends to jump in the puddles!
We had a great afternoon today taking part in a live lesson all about space. We met a real life inventor who had the opportunity to meet Tim Peake. We learnt all about life as an astronaut and what they do up in space. We went onto the international space station and Tim told us about having to exercise each day, work hard on experiments, grow plants, launch satellites and carry out space walks. We Read more
We had a wonderful experience this afternoon completing an online lesson with Tim Peake (astronaut) children learnt about forces like gravity and how astronauts exercise to keep themselves healthy in space.
Year 6 had the best weekend at PGL. They took part in many activities such a climbing, Jacob’s ladder, rafting, the giant swing, problem solving, camp fire and ambush. We have been reading the story, ‘The Colour Monster’ this week. Everyone has then been focusing on colour mixing. We have all enjoyed exploring colour mixing in different ways.
