England vs Fiji Rugby Game

On Friday evening, some of year 5 visited the AJ Bell stadium as part of a project with Rochdale Hornets. It was a fantastic experience for everyone who went. Firstly, the children took part in a tag rugby tournament with other schools. The played well and persevered despite the rain. Biscuit-henge

As part of our History topic, we have been learning about the famous monument Stonehenge. We thought about why it would have been so hard to build all those years ago and what it could have been used for. We then worked in teams to build our own Stonehenge and enjoyed tasting it at the end too!  

The Tiger Who Came For Tea

This week, we have been reading the story The Tiger Who Came For Tea. We have learnt the story, we have then been retelling the story with our friends and we have discussed our favourite parts of the story. Everyone has enjoyed creating their own tiger pictures and paintings. They all looked brilliant! We have also been researching information about tigers and watching videos of tigers in the wild.            

Clay and conker models

This week in forest school the children made conker models. They used a conkers, clay and natural materials from the forest to create their own model. The children thought carefully about how their model will look. They made people and animals, using conkers, sticks and leaves for the different body parts. Well done Snowdrops!

Firefighters visit Year 2

As part of our topic ‘The Great Fire of London’ the children have been learning about fire safety and why  The Great Fire of London spread so quickly. This week we had some special visitors come to school to help us with our learning. Forest School

Today, Year 5 have had a fun afternoon doing Forest School. In geography, we have been learning about slums and we recapped everything we have learnt so far. We spoke about how houses in slums are usually poorly constructed with any materials that can be found. We also spoke about how people living in these conditions might use fire to cook and keep warm. Ethos team Collective Worship

This morning, the ethos team led their first collective worship. They did a fantastic job! The children helped to plan the whole thing. They chose to retell the story of Mary and Martha using drama. The told us that it everybody has different personalities and different roles but that it is important to respect everyone. Co-operative museum visit

Year 6 are starting a new topic all about Industrial Revolution. Today, we had a visitor from Rochdale Pioneer Museum (Cat), who delivered a workshop all about our new topic. The children were fully immersed in Rochdale during the Industrial Revolution. They focused on working conditions, food and living conditions. Printing

During our art lesson this week the children worked collaboratively to develop drawings into prints. They had a range of items to print with including polystyrene sheets, leaves, wool, toy cogs and bubble wrap. They could choose to make their work abstract or figurative (something recognisable.)   

Kaden’s Garden

This half term in RE we have been reflecting on and discussing reasons why people do or do not believe in God. Today our focus was to explain why to many Christians the natural world is evidence for a belief in God.
