Gardening club ~ Nature pictures

This week we made nature pictures! They used leaves and other bits they found in the garden to create their masterpieces. To finish our final gardening club session for this half term, we played a few games of hide and seek. They loved it and some children got very creative with their hiding spaces! Thanks to all children who attended, we had lots of fun.

Oaks shared learning and lunch

Oaks had so much fun at their shared learning. They worked hard with an adult to find out if certain materials were absorbent. Then we went to lunch! It was so tasty. thank you to everyone that came…and well done to the children, they were so well behaved!

Yummy Stonehenge

Today we recreated Stonehenge. We looked at the different types of stones that make up Stonehenge and discussed how prehistoric man could have moved them without the invention of the wheel. Here are some pictures of our yummy recreations

Hello Yellow 2022

This week St Luke’s celebrated World Mental Health Day. Children came to school dressed in Yellow and raised money for YoungMinds. The children also took part in various activities throughout the day based on ‘The 5 Ways To Wellbeing’. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, we have raised £190. There is still a few days left to donate on our JustGiving page, if you haven’t yet had chance to do so.

5 Ways to Wellbeing – Lubaina Himid

As a follow on from Hello Yellow on Monday, Year 6 looked at how they could express the 5 ways to wellbeing through art.   They used a piece by Lubaini Himid, named Five, to inspire their use of colours, tones, shapes and lines. Our amazing world

In RE, we have been continuing to think about why some people believe in God. We recapped the terms atheist, theist and agnostic. We then went on a walk around the school grounds and found amazing things. We found leaves that had 5 different colours on them. We found living creatures. Screen time survey

During our computing lessons, the children have been looking at the effects of too much screen time. All children in Year 6 completed a survey at home to find out how much they actually spent on their screens (TV, phones, iPads, computers etc). Screen time records

As part of our Online Safety topic, Year 6 recorded their screen time and activity time across a week.   We then looked at creating fields before adding the class data to a database.   Finally, we were able to analyse the data by creating a range of graphs and charts.  

England vs Fiji Rugby Game

On Friday evening, some of year 5 visited the AJ Bell stadium as part of a project with Rochdale Hornets. It was a fantastic experience for everyone who went. Firstly, the children took part in a tag rugby tournament with other schools. The played well and persevered despite the rain. Biscuit-henge

As part of our History topic, we have been learning about the famous monument Stonehenge. We thought about why it would have been so hard to build all those years ago and what it could have been used for. We then worked in teams to build our own Stonehenge and enjoyed tasting it at the end too!
