This week the whole school has been taking part in a coding carousel. We have been using the IPads, laptops and bee-bots to complete a range of coding activities.

Will has played for Fleetwood Town academy for a season and a half, and has recently signed on for the upcoming season. He has represented St. Luke’s across many sports and has been a fantastic role model throughout his time, especially within PE lessons. Well done Will and we wish you luck as you move on to secondary school and into a new season.
Year 6 took part in a SCARF workshop focusing on mental health and well-being. Within the session the children focused on resilience, positive affirmations and how looked at different strategies to support them if they are feeling worried.
Juniper enjoyed a visit to Newhouse Academy yesterday. They had a fantastic time. We started by making pizzas in Food Technology and then went on to make a keyring in Design Technology. Both the teachers were really impressed with their cookery skills and their sanding, gluing and clamping skills.
Well done to all of the children that represented St Luke’s this year in a variety of competitions. Our children had a great time at the Heywood Sports Partnership presentation last night, and were only too happy to show off their medals and trophies today.
This half term we have been doing all about animals and minibeasts. Last week we looked at ladybirds, we learnt about the life cycle of a ladybird and read some lovely stories. One of the stories that we read was ‘What the ladybird heard’, in the story, the bad guys made a map of the farm so that they could catch the prize cow. This week was arts week, we used material to make minibeasts with an artist, we listened to steps and instructions about how to make the minibeasts and did a fantastic job. We also discussed how art is not just about drawing/painting/making, it is how we express ourselves, we then did some dance activities and games and acted out familiar stories and discussed how drama and dance are forms of art. KS2 boys intra-class dodgeball competition. Well done everyone who took part, and to the winners, Year 6 Sycamore.
We had the artist Hugh Templeton join us in school today. He worked with us to help us create a piece of art work using water colours. We tried to recreate the picture of the Earth that Apollo 11 took when they landed on the moon. We really enjoyed the session with him. Have a look at some of our masterpieces!
