Last week was ‘Antibullying week’ The theme this year is ‘ make some noise.’ The antibullying ambassadors held an assembly to speak to both KS1 and KS2 about this years theme and what they can do if they feel like they are being bullied or if they think someone else might be being bullied.
This week in cookery club we made cheese and ham toasties. The children followed the recipe and built their sandwich before using the toastie machine to toast them. The smell coming from the classroom led to lots of hungry teachers wanting a toastie for tea.
In RE this half term, we are looking at different festivals. Today we looked at the question: What is Christmas? The children shared what Christmas means to them and we also discussed why Christmas is important to Christians. The children worked in groups to act out the nativity and then worked on sequencing the story.

In Geography this week we have been learning the capital cities in the United Kingdom. We then went outside, and with the help of the map on the playground, we drew our own UK using chalk then labelled it. Year 1 are starting a new writing unit based on the story ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. Today we explored the story by reading it, talking about the vocabulary (including nouns, verbs and adjectives) and discussed ideas of how we could improve the story using our fantastic adjective ideas. We then had lots of fun acting out the story in groups.
In art this week we talked about how a colour can be lots of different shades and hues. The children collected lots of things that are green. We discussed the shades of green and how we can use yellow and blue to make these shades. The children then made some handprints using different greens they had made.
Juniper have been working hard to create some spreadsheets this afternoon. We used the letters of the alphabet as our variables. The counting tool helped us to identify which vowel was used the most in our text and the frequency that the consonants were used.
