World Book Day
We have all enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. We have been very busy reading lots of stories together, designing our own book covers and creating a bookmark. Everyone looked fantastic in their costumes!

We have had a lot of fun in Rowan celebrating World Book Day. We started of by completing social reading (reading in groups)and discussing why we enjoyed that book, what aspect of it was good and what we also was not so keen on. We had lots of fun today celebrating World Book Day today in year 3 Birch! We discussed our favourite stories and wrote some book reviews on books we like to read. We also shared stories of people we find to be inspirational. We then participated in a live lesson with the BBC where we created our own stories!
In Forest School this afternoon, we discussed Shrove Tuesday and how is it celebrated by different Christians around the world. We learnt about how some Christians celebrate Mardi Gras. During this time, some people wear costumes and masks, so the children created the some fabulous masks out of natural materials. We also talked about how Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent and the children created some fabulous pictures out of the ash.
Juniper have enjoyed sharing our stories of people we find to be inspirational. We have used our writing skills to write newspaper reports about an inspirational person – Greta Thunberg. We have also had discussions in small groups about what we like to read for pleasure. We made 2 types of delicious smoothies. We chopped the fruit on chopping boards making sure we sanitised our hands before preparing it. We put mango, pineapple and carrot in the 1st smoothie. Lots of us enjoyed, it tasted very sour! The second smoothie was delicious it included bananas, strawberry and cucumber, it was really tasty! Well done Willows for trying something new.
Before the half term, we learnt all about Internet safety. We listened to a story read by the Digital Leaders, it taught us to think before we click and if we see anything unsafe or something we are unsure about we need to tell an adult we trust. We created posters to remind us what to do if we feel unsafe online.
Year 2, 5 and 6 had a fantastic day today with a focus on Islamic art. We were extremely lucky to have Razwan Ul-Haq, who is an artist, visit us. We started the day in the hall, where Razwan, shared some of his fantastic artwork with us and we discussed how it links to his religion of Islam. In our Learning for Life lesson today, children were able to understand the importance of food, water, oxygen, sleep and exercise for the human body and its health. We discussed some amazing facts about our bodies through a quiz and children then carried out research to answer their own number fact questions about our bodies.
