Our moon research

This afternoon, Year 5 Pine discussed our moon. We addressed misconceptions about the moon that are widely believed. We then went outdoors on a fact-finding mission and traded facts with each other. When we came back into class, we had learnt lots about the moon. We used this information to create an informative poster. We also found out about the phases of the moon and why it appears to be different shapes and different times. Read more

Maths challenge

This afternoon, we decided to get out of the classroom and into the fresh air to do some problem solving revision on what we have learnt so far in year 5. We worked in pairs to solve a number of multi-step addition, subtraction, number and place value problems. Penguin Planning!

We looked at how to effectively create non fiction shapes and map out an information text about the Penguins of Antarctica.   We we used images to summarise each paragraph and then used shapes to break each individual paragraph down into smaller chunks.   When we we come to write a text about our own animal next week, we will be able to apply the shapes to any of our information texts.

Amazing Icebergs

Year 6 had the chance to investigate how icebergs are formed, where they are found and the impact they can have, such as in the story of the Titanic. We created our own icebergs and used ice cubes to represent smaller chunks of sea ice. We then looked at the effect on the icebergs and the water water when added cold water, warm water and salt. From this, we drew up questions that we would Read more
