Scrumdidlyumptious food tasting

A fantastic first day back for Year 3 Birch. Our topic for this half term is ‘Scrumdidlyumptious’ in which we will be learning all about food. To engage us in this topic, we spent our 1st lesson food tasting. We tried a variety of fruits and vegetables and discussed with our talk partners what we thought it was and if we thought it was a fruit or vegetable. We then learnt how we can tell Read more

Polar Bear Explorers’ Club

This half term, we have started our new topic: Frozen Kingdom. We will be studying the Arctic and Antarctica and have begun our new book, The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club. We began by making predictions based on the cover alone, before moving on to write our own blurb about and our own preview about what could happen in the story. From Yetis to Angry Gnomes, this is sure to be a popular book with Year Read more

“Work-At-It” Wiz

Sometimes we can find some lessons challenging, but in Year 4 we know it is important to have the right mindset. Our class rabbit called ‘Work- at- it’ Wiz has a growth mindset; he believes that if you put in effort, you can get better at everything.  He tries hard in all subjects, even in subjects that he struggles with. He knows that we learn from the mistakes we make.  Today we found some of Read more

Leaf Man read in Kaden’s Garden.

We started our topic off by reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert in Kaden’s Garden. It was such a wonderful spot to read this book. As we looked up, there were leaves falling all around us. Leaf Man even landed on Mrs Nuttall – she was very surprised! After reading this story, we gathered different sized leaves, ready to make our own leaf man for our front covers of our Curriculum books. We saw red, Read more

Making pirate ships

To end our topic ‘Land ahoy’ we have been making some pirate ships. To begin we had to think carefully, from our science experiments, about which materials would be best to make our boat so it would float. We had lots of fun making these in school and would love to see who has tested their pirate ships at home to see if they float.

Challenge 1

We have been busy taking on our new role as digital leaders this half term. To begin we went into Year 2 to help during a computer lesson.  We have helped to set up a digital leader display in the reception area and have completed an assembly so all children and adults know who we are and how we can help.

VE Party – The War is Over!

As our WW2 topic drew to a close, the children celebrated the end of the war in style. After looking at some of the most important and influential speeches in history, from the likes of Sir Winston Churchill and Martin Luther King, Year 6 wrote their own VE speeches and letters to invite the whole street to their party. We looked at techniques of how to effectively write and deliver a speech, choosing the style Read more

‘ Reading is like opening a door to a magical world’- Year 4 child.

On Friday, Year 4 Hawthorn, had a fantastic time at the library. We were so excited to pick books to take back to school. Once back at school, we enjoyed sitting in our new reading corner and reading our new books. During English lessons, we have been writing letters to David Walliams about reading. Today we came up with some amazing similes about reading to include in our letters. ‘ Reading is like opening a Read more

Why was Jesus important to us?

This afternoon the children in Maple have been thinking deeply about who Jesus said he was. We have thought about the ways in which Jesus described himself and what he meant by this. The children have come up with some really reflective answers…’Jesus is a good shepherd because he guides us through life’…’Jesus feeds us with love, not bread, to keep us alive…’Jesus is the light because without it we’d all be living in darkness’.
