Zog

We had lots of fun this week reading Zog. The children made their own sentences using pictures to prompt them. They made play dough stars for Zog too to reward him for his efforts and never giving up. We linked this story to careers and growth mindset and discussed wha5 they want to be when they grow up.

Blindside – VAWG

Year 6 were able to work with Breaking Barriers once again, this time watching the monologue “Blind Side” as well as the video “Level the Playing Field” which featured a number of St Luke’s pupils. Music

This term Year 6 have had a music teacher from Rochdale Music Service delivering our lessons on Boomwhackers. The children have been looking at key vocabulary, focusing on a new word each lesson. The children have been looking at how to play the Boomwhackers, where you can hit them, how to hit them and how to produce different tones, volume and pitch.

Urban Planning

As part of our careers related learning, we used our recent traffic survey to take the role of an urban planner, tasked with deciding where houses, parks, schools and roads should be built. We looked at the traffic on Queen’s Park Road and if the town could have been designed more efficiently to reduce traffic. We presented our findings and then suggested ways to improve traffic flow and solve congestion.

Inter Faith Week

This week, during collective class worship, we celebrated and learnt about Inter Faith Week. We learnt about how we can be respectful to those from different faiths and involve everyone within our communities as this years theme is ‘Community- together we serve’. We those about deep rooted  values we need to ensure everyone feels welcomed and celebrated.

Shared learning – Geography

During shared learning this week, we discussed our Geography topic with our parents. We then looked at The Skills Builders, specifically problem solving and creativity. The children were also able to identify careers related Geography and our topic – Fieldwork. Thank you to all parents who joined us for Rowan’s shared learning. Sycamore shared learning

Thank you to those parents and family members who were able to attend our shared learning. After introducing our Geography topic, Fieldwork, we set children and adults the task of producing a poster to be displayed at the front of school to try and make Queen’s Park Road safer for our school community.

RE Christmas lesson Year 1

During our RE lessons this half term, we are focusing on fights and giving sand the story of Christmas. We have particularly focused on one part of the Christmas story where baby Jesus is born and lies in the manager. We spoke about the importance of knowing the true meaning of Christmas and where baby Jesus lay when he had special visitors. Year 2 took part in a Coding workshop focused on healthy eating. The children met a robot called Al who needed algorithms to help pack a healthy lunchbox. They also explored how to debug when mistakes occurred. The class asked thoughtful questions about Coding, such as why humans don’t just do the job themselves. This led to a discussion about how robots can complete boring, repetitive tasks more quickly than people.
