Year 1 are loving our Mini Muay-Thai lessons this half-term. We are improving our fitness and learning the basics of martial arts. Our lessons are supported by videos from Kelly Haynes, who is a British champion of Muay Thai Boxing. We are also putting lots of work into our essential skill of ‘listening’ to ensure we are completing moves correctly and ensuring safety.
Interfaith Week: Celebrating Understanding and diversity Interfaith Week is all about: Building respect between people of different faiths Celebrating similarities and differences Encouraging curiosity, kindness, and open conversations Learning how different beliefs contribute to our shared world We created trees which included root values which are importantly beliefs and principles lots of people can live by. We then wrote positive actions which demonstrate root values.
Today, in Picture News, we have learnt about Inter Faith Week. A week when people from different religions and beliefs come together to: Learn about each other Build friendships Celebrate what they have in common Understand and respect their differences Work together to help their communities The children created their own ‘Root Value Trees’ to show others what important beliefs or principles lots of people can live by.
Today during our assembly time, Year 5 have looked at Inter Faith Week 2025. The children were made aware of Inter Faith Week being from Sunday 9th – Sunday 16th November 2025 and that the theme of this week is ‘Community: Together We Serve’. We had lots of fun this week reading Zog. The children made their own sentences using pictures to prompt them. They made play dough stars for Zog too to reward him for his efforts and never giving up. We linked this story to careers and growth mindset and discussed wha5 they want to be when they grow up.
Year 6 were able to work with Breaking Barriers once again, this time watching the monologue “Blind Side” as well as the video “Level the Playing Field” which featured a number of St Luke’s pupils. This term Year 6 have had a music teacher from Rochdale Music Service delivering our lessons on Boomwhackers. The children have been looking at key vocabulary, focusing on a new word each lesson. The children have been looking at how to play the Boomwhackers, where you can hit them, how to hit them and how to produce different tones, volume and pitch.
As part of our careers related learning, we used our recent traffic survey to take the role of an urban planner, tasked with deciding where houses, parks, schools and roads should be built. We looked at the traffic on Queen’s Park Road and if the town could have been designed more efficiently to reduce traffic. We presented our findings and then suggested ways to improve traffic flow and solve congestion.
This week, during collective class worship, we celebrated and learnt about Inter Faith Week. We learnt about how we can be respectful to those from different faiths and involve everyone within our communities as this years theme is ‘Community- together we serve’. We those about deep rooted values we need to ensure everyone feels welcomed and celebrated.
During shared learning this week, we discussed our Geography topic with our parents. We then looked at The Skills Builders, specifically problem solving and creativity. The children were also able to identify careers related Geography and our topic – Fieldwork. Thank you to all parents who joined us for Rowan’s shared learning.
