This week we celebrated St George’s Day. It was so lovely to see some children come to school in their Uniform groups uniform. In class we spoke about the exciting opportunities these boys have when being apart of the Cubs uniform group. They told us about the parade they took part in and how much they have learnt being apart of this group.
In music, this half term we are learning all about how and when rock and roll originated. We will be listening to music from the genre, learning dances and using instruments to recreate bass lines in our music lessons. In our first lesson, we listened to different pieces of music and identified what instruments we could hear. This half term Year 5 will be studying architecture. This week our focus was was observational drawing. We used our observational skills to sketch basic house shapes. We had to look closely at the details and we learnt how to use our pencils to help as a guide for size and position. Later we used parts of our sketchs to create a monoprint using ink paper. The results were brilliant. Well done Year 5.
This week the children really enjoyed the return of our forest school sessions. They had a fun, and very muddy, afternoon exploring the forest school area. They created their own artwork and found the biggest worm we have ever seen 😄
Today we went to church to recap the story of the resurrection. We worked through different activities to understand each of the days of Holy Week.
We have started our new Art topic this half term- Map it out. For our first lesson we have been looking at different types of maps. We had to sort the maps into two different sections to match the titles for example: old and new, real and imaginary, maps and not maps. This week we have been learning all about France, we started by listening to the story ‘A walk in Paris’ which showed us some famous Paris landmarks – The children have had some fantastic recall when telling us what they might see if they visited Paris, they could become tour guides! We have answered the register each morning saying Bonjour and learnt other French words through songs and stories, we loved the French fruits song. Read more
At the start of this half-term, the school council were looking through the suggestions pupils had posted in the council’s suggestion box, and found one that asked if we could have somewhere sheltered outdoors so Forest School sessions could still take place even in really awful weather. We have had lots of fun in Year 1 this week. We have learnt all about Easter traditions and why Christians celebrate Easter, made Easter cards, made Easter cakes and had our 500 dojo reward afternoon- watching a film and eating treats. Wishing you all a fantastic Easter!
