Wiggle Worship

This week, Wiggle brought us the story of ‘The Good Samaritan’. We discussed how the story links with our Christian Value of friendship. We talked about which of the characters showed kindness and friendship towards the man in need and how this made the man feel. The children used the small wooden figures to act out the story together. We thought about ways that we could show friendship towards others in our lives and how Read more

Physical Changes

This afternoon, Juniper have been learning about what a physical change is in Science. We now know that a physical change is any change in state such as melting, boiling, condensing or freezing and that the change can be reversed. We have enjoyed seeing some of these physical changes take place. Have a look at our photos to see which states we have changed.

BODMAS

As part of our four operations unit of work, Year 6 looked at order of operations and how we must use BODMAS. We explored how brackets and BODMAS affect our answers, challenged ourselves to use BODMAS to find 30 answers to the same calculation, played connect 4 and even solved a murder mystery!

Shared lunch & learning

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came to our shared lunch and learning. The children had so much fun (and I hope the adults did too). We started our first Science lesson about organs in our body. We completed a quiz about the heart, lungs, stomach, skin and skeleton. The answers to the quiz were put up all around the hall. Afterwards these organs were added to an outline of the body Read more

Councillor Visit

As part of our English unit on persuasive writing, Year 6 were able to share their letters with and ask questions of Councillor Peter Rush. Councillor Rush has worked in the township for more than two decades and is also a governor at St. Luke’s. He provided us with reasons for and against the points made in our letters, helped us to understand what the council can and cannot do to help solve the parking Read more

Cookery Club Week 2

This week the children requested that we make Rice Krispie cakes. We decided to give them a bonfire theme using buttercream icing and broken matchmakers. The children made the buttercream from scratch using butter and icing sugar and added orange food colouring to give us the fire effect. The end results are brilliant and they tasted pretty amazing too!

Forest school

In forest school this week Year 3 Cedar have been learning all about The Good Samaritan by sequencing the story and then using the natural forest materials to create artwork. They had lots of fun exploring forest school even in the pouring rain!

Meet the Doodlers

This week in design technology we met ‘the Doodlers’. The Doodlers are fun robots powered by an electrical circuit and a motor. The children carried out an investigation in groups to determine the factors that affect the form and function of the Doodler. We changed parts such as the drawing tools, the quantities of the tools used, different counterweights and the positions of the battery and motor. The children had a great time investigating and Read more

Agents of change!

After noticing high volumes of traffic whilst walking St Luke’s church, Year 6 conducted a traffic survey to investigate how busy the road was outside of school. After some alarming results, the children decided that it would be a good idea to write letters that could be sent to parents, notifying them of the dangers of high volumes of traffic outside school, parking on double yellow lines, and blocking driveways. Today, we had the chance Read more

Printing with paint

The children had fun this afternoon in art printing with paint. We looked at how we could use Lego bricks to create prints by painting and stamping the blocks. The children experiment with pattern, shape and colour. Some children challenged themselves to make their initials using the blocks.
