Problem Solving In Afterschool Club

This half-term in after-school club, we have been developing our essential skill of problem solving through a range of engaging and active challenges. 3D Spider

This half-term, Year 1 have been exploring the art skill of creating 3D forms using paper. During our recent lesson, the children worked collaboratively to design and build a large spider model inspired by Maman by Louise Bourgeois. We used a variety of techniques to turn newspaper and tape into 3D spiders. Year 2 had a wonderful time celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day! We collected donations for Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, bringing in pet food, blankets and toys to help care for animals in need. In STEM Club this week, our task was called ‘Bridge Blunder’. The children were given the task of building a bridge that would stretch over a 20cm span. We took part in collective worship led by the Digital Leaders about Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme was “Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI.” In class, we then completed a lesson to learn more about artificial intelligence (AI). Some year 5 children have continued their journey with other Rochdale schools, working scientifically to identify a problem within our local community that we can solve through scientific enquiry.
