Kite Calamity

This week at STEM club the children designed a model kite, which they hoped would fly. In pairs, the children thought about potential problems they could come across when making their kite, for example, choosing a material that wasn’t too heavy. We then tested our kites using an electric fan. We even investigated how a kite having a tail with bows on could add to its stability and balance.

Day and Night

In our science lesson today, year 5 have been exploring day and night. We have explored the Sun and the Earth, the axis that the Earth is on and how it has a tilt of 23.5 degrees, and where parts of our Earth are located – the North and South Pole, the Northern and Southern Hemisphere, and the equator. The children carried out seeing day and night practically by using a ball for the Earth, Read more

Collective worship – Promoting Self-efficacy

During our collective worship in class today we listened to the Hare and the Tortoise story. We discussed why is it important to believe in ourselves and others. We discussed how sometimes challenges may feel really difficult but that it is important to use our skills to the best of our ability and to not give up. We also talked about things we have and haven’t got control over. Mrs Downing then gave each of Read more

Self-efficiency Year 1 Oaks

This morning we have spoke a lot about things we can do together. We read the story of The Hare and The Tortoise. Although tortoise was slower, he still believed in hisself and won the race! We spoke about how we can often not feel confident to accomplish something although if we try our best and believe in ourself we can accomplish anything! We also related this to our believe in yourself butterflies. We then Read more

Year 2 Science

This week, our Year 2 class had a hands-on science lesson exploring how different forces affect everyday objects. The children pushed, pulled, twisted, bent, and squashed a variety of items—like rubber bands, sponges, rulers, paper clips, balloons, and slinkies—to see how they changed shape. They discovered that some objects, like elastic bands, return to their original shape (elasticity), while others bend without breaking (flexibility). Each group also tested a solid wooden block to see an Read more

The Water Cycle

We have started our new English unit where we will be writing a factual tour about the water cycle. We spent today’s lesson learning some facts about the water cycle and creating our own mini water cycles to observe the process.

Find the shape

In English today, we moved onto our new topic which is surrounding biographies and non-chronological texts. The first text we looked at today was a biography written about Jane Goodall and her journey through her life from getting her first chimpanzee teddy, to working with primates in the jungle. The children had to locate different sections of the biography – heading, early life, achievements as an example) and draw the correct symbol next to their Read more

STEM Space Show

Yesterday we took part in the live online lesson “Spaceship Earth”, an exciting and interactive space-themed STEM experience that brought learning to life. During the session, Maple learnt how satellites are launched into space and how they orbit the Earth to collect vital information. We discovered how satellites are used to track animals, helping scientists protect wildlife, and how they play an important role in monitoring climate change. The lesson also explored how space technology Read more

Maths musical chairs

Today we played musical chairs with a twist. Every time the music stopped we had to sit down on the chair in front of us and solve the multiplication problem. We loved showing some of our dance moves on a Friday morning!
