Building Shelters

Year 5 had a fantastic time in the forest today. First we used our imaginations and found ‘not sticks’. We had magic pens, broomsticks, bow and arrows, wands, teleportation sticks and many more. The children then made up some fantastic stories to go with their ‘not sticks’. We then found out a storm was heading our way so the children worked in groups to build a shelter. Some groups found this tricky so we gave Read more

What a busy first week back!

This half term our topic is fairy tales, this week we have been focussing on the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears; we used adjectives to describe the characters, played with porridge oats and for our writing task we tasted different flavour porridge and wrote words to describe how they tasted!   Also this week, we had our first forest school lesson, were introduced to Wally and Dina in dinosaur school, celebrated Earth Day and Read more

Wriggle and crawl

We started our new topic this week Wriggle and crawl. We completed a geography lesson by walking around the school grounds looking at human and physical features. Then in class we created a birds eye view of the school grounds and added a key.   In science we went on a minibeast hunt in Kaden’s garden. We saw lots of Minibeasts like worms, spiders, flies and bees.

Which liquid travels the fastest?

Maple have been investigating how fast different liquids flow. We have learnt some new voabulary – viscosity and gradient – ask your child if they can tell you what they mean! We made predictions, carried out a fair test, recorded our findings and discussed our results. We concluded that the thicker and more gloopy the liquid, the slower it travels.

Perseus and Medusa

This week we started off learning about Ancient Greek myths by watching a virtual performance by Hobgolbin Theatre. We really enjoyed watching the actors act out the story of Perseus and Medusa. Here are some pictures of the performance.

Can you clean dirty water?

This week in Science, Year 5 have been investigating ‘Can you clean dirty water?’ We began the week by learning the processes of separating mixtures. This included sieving, filtering and evaporating. We then worked in groups to complete a pre-investigation, in which we used our new knowledge to try to separate a mixture of water, flour, salt and lentils. This helped us to make predictions and decide on a method of how we would try Read more

Tasting porridge

This week in Reception we have been reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’. We have been retelling the story in our class and found out that Goldilocks loved the baby bear’s porridge because it was just right. In our writing activity we got the chance to taste different flavoured porridge. We had lemon, jam and our favourite was the chocolate one!     After tasting our porridge we came up with some adjectives Read more

Potion-making!

Maple have been busy making potions this afternoon. We’ve been making scientific observations and asking questions about what we’ve seen. We all got a shock when we mixed vinegar with bicarbonate of soda, looked puzzled when we stirred water and oil together and were amazed when we looked at how mentos reacted with some lemonade.
