Year 1 Art and class treat

This half term, Year 1 were focussing on ‘Woven Wonders’. We discussed Is it art? Thinking about how art is not just something we draw or paint but can be something made from different materials and patterns. Goldilocks and the Three Bears

This week Reception have been reading the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Reception have been retelling the story and acting it out. Everyone has also taste tested different flavours of porridge, thought of their own adjectives and written an adjective for each porridge. They tasted a lemon, grapefruit, chocolate and syrup porridge. The chocolate one was definitely the favourite!

Architecture and monuments

Year 5 have finished our architecture art unit by designing our own monuments. The children looked at famous monument examples and thought about how they would like to be represented. We then brought our ideas to life, annotating them to show what our monument means. We have also studied a famous artist / architect, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and created artist profile pages. We researched facts about Hundertwasser and presented the information using his style of artistry.

Baking

Last week, Reception were very busy designing their own gingerbread person. This week, Reception have been able to bake and decorate their own. Everyone did a fantastic job and the biscuits tasted delicious!

Rock N Roll

During Music lessons, Year 4 have been looking at Rock n Roll. So far we have looked at different rock and rock artists such as Elvis Presley and Bill Haley. We have learnt how to perform the hand jive and are currently learning how to ‘ walk the baseline’ using the glockenspiels.

Year 3 Birch – VE Day

Birch have had a great day today learning all about VE Day! We’ve done some dancing, flag making, cabbage soup tasting… (yuck!) and had a lovely interactive Zoom call with the lovely Mr Dilly! We learnt lots from him and saw some amazing photographs.

VE day

Thank you to all parents and carers who helped us celebrate VEday! The children experienced life in the 1940s by making cabbage soup; looking through and working out how ration books worked; having a dance workshop to learn how to dance the Lindy Hop and had a 1940s lunch outside   We all had a great day!
