The Sky’s The Limit – Engineering Educates Robotics Challenge

Session 1 – Ask Throughout careers week, Year 5 have been given an engineering topic that is called ‘The Sky’s The Limit.’ Today we carried out “Session1: Ask” which asked the question ‘How do some things fly better than others?’ We looked into how simple systems work, identifying how each part depends on another and predicting what would happen if there was a missing piece or link. We created paper aeroplanes and were able to Read more

Year 6 Erlson engineering trip

Today the children had an exciting visit to Erlson Factory where they explored the world of engineering. Careers Week- Engineer’s-Marble Runs!

This week we have loved careers week with a focus on Engineering! In Year 1 we have designed, created, reviewed and show cased our Marble Runs! We planned our designed based on Marble Runs we have researched, we worked in groups and listened to one another to share ideas. We created our Marble Runs with recycled materials. We were also able to fix and improve our designs. During English lessons, we focused on Oracy and Read more

Islam Assembly

This morning we were very lucky to have two special visitors into school. Children in KS1 and KS2 had a very informative assembly about Islam. Soban and Burhan came into school to teach us some Arabic greetings, teach us about the 5 pillars of Islam and about fasting. Children were able to ask questions they had too about their faith.  Some children were able to answer questions as they have learnt about Islam  during their Read more

Mae Jemison

This week is Careers Week at St Luke’s with a focus on engineering and in Pine today we have been looking into the life of Mae Jemison – the first African-American black woman to become an astronaut. During our lesson we held a press conference for Mae. Children took on the role of being Mae Jemison and answered questions from other class members. The children displayed some excellent confident formal speaking and asked some fantastic questions – Why is engineering important in space? What skills do you need to be successful? What was your biggest challenge?

All Around the World – French Week for Reception

Children really enjoyed French week. We learnt all about famous landmarks in France, along with where France is on the map. We looked at how we could get from England to France via the euro tunnel, ferry and aeroplane. We finished our week off by tasting some lovely French food. We even got some tasty French Brie and some children wanted to taste this. Most children loved it!

Cookery Club Week 2 – Sausage Rolls

In our school cookery club this week we had great fun making sausage rolls. Before we started, we practised our planning skills by looking at the recipe and talking about the ingredients and steps. This helped everyone feel ready and organised. We also focused on food hygiene. The children washed their hands carefully, and learned how to handle raw meat safely. They listened closely to instructions so they could work safely and confidently. By the Read more

D and T – evaluating biscuits

This week in Year 4, we became food designers as part of Design and Technology lesson on adapting a recipe. Our mission was to explore different types of biscuits, taste and evaluate them, and then use our findings to help us design our own adapted biscuit recipe. Investigating Existing Products Before creating our own designs, we needed inspiration! We carefully tasted and evaluated a variety of popular biscuits: Fruit Shortcake Bourbon Creams Pink and White Wafers Read more

Dissecting flowers

In Year 5 this half term, we are carrying out a topic on life cycles and reproduction. We started our brand new topic yesterday where we began by looking at the reproductive system of a flower. We discussed the life cycle of a plant and looked at each stage of the process: seed stage, germination stage, seedling stage, leaf growing stage, flowering stage, pollination stage, and back to seed stage. We then carried out the Read more
