As part of our history topic, Civil Rights, we have been looking at protests and the balance between safety and freedom as our big question. We looked at global issues and how people protest to make their voice heard. We then focussed on the BLM protests and protest for equality. We took this skills we learnt in our art unit to create charcoal street art to create banners to send a message.
This half term Juniper are learning to play the cornet. What a great start they’ve had! There’s been some excellent technique used to blow through the mouthpiece and create musical notes. Each week they’ll build on their skills and hopefully be able to play a tune by the end of it!
For our Picture News lesson we have been looking at the effect climate change has had on Antarctica. We discussed different ways we could help and how by doing something small could still help. We then decided what we would like to do to help. Some examples were: turning lights out when they are not being used, not wasting paper and making sure it is being recycled, walk more instead of using the car.
This morning Year 6 Rowan spent time in the Forest School area. The children took time to discuss and define the word Trust (our Christian Value for Spring 1). The children split into three groups. This morning, year 4 enjoyed a visit from the Oral Heath team to tell us how to keep our teeth clean. 🦷
This morning, year 4 had a visit from our school nurse. Michelle told us all about the importance oral hygiene, we learnt what teeth are and how to look after them, what we use our teeth for, how many teeth we have and which are deciduous and permanent and the functions of our teeth. Shared learning this morning for Year 4 Hawthorn. It was lovely for the children to spend time with their grown-ups and talk about their learning in class. Together, they created their very own chocolate bar wrapper and completed a Charlie and chocolate factory quiz. Thank you to all her parents and carers for coming this morning.
The ethos team have been busy preparing for their collective worship this week. In RE, we have been thinking about special places. In forest school this week we shared places that are special to use around the fire circle. The children then got busy creating their own special places. The children worked hard building their own den and could explain why it was important to them.
