Grouping Animals and Recording Data

This week in Maple, we explored an exciting area of science all about grouping animals and thinking like real scientists when recording information. We began the lesson by discussing how animals can be grouped in different ways. The children quickly realised that animals share certain characteristics, and these can help us sort them into groups. We focused on identifying key features such as whether an animal has a backbone, what it eats, and where it Read more

Forest school after school club week 2

This week at Forest School Club, the children had a wonderful time exploring nature and developing their Skills Builder skills through a range of exciting activities. We created beautiful natural medallions using log slices, showing our creativity and staying focused as we carefully designed them. The children also made Cheerio bird feeders, demonstrating teamwork and problem solving while helping wildlife around our school. During our mini beast hunt, everyone used their speaking and listening skills Read more

Flowers

This week in Science, Year 1 have been learning a song about the different parts of a plant, along with actions to help them remember the function of each part. They labelled the parts of a flower and learned to identify each one. The children also explored the difference between wild and garden flowers. As part of this, they went on a flower hunt around the school grounds, using an identification key to name each Read more

House Monoprint

Following on from our observational drawings last week, Pine have been working on creating monoprints. The children chose a small section of their drawings and carefully created an enlarged version of the section in their sketch books. We then used polystyrene tiles and printing ink to create a printing tile, which was then used to create the monoprint.

Monoprint

In our art topic this half term, year 5 are looking at craft and design, specifically architecture. We have looked at houses and buildings so far and have even made our own drawings of houses. Today, we selected a small area of our drawing from last lesson as if we had ‘zoomed in’ and copied this section larger. We then imprinted this onto polystyrene and used printing ink to print our design. The designs worked Read more

Fraction fun

This week, we have been focusing on developing our understanding of how to find a fraction of a number. We explored this concept through a range of activities, including using visual models and practical examples to help reinforce the idea of dividing quantities into equal parts before finding the required fraction. To make our learning more engaging, we took our lesson outside, where pupils worked collaboratively in small groups to solve a variety of fraction Read more

What Do Seeds Need to Grow?

In this exciting science lesson, children became young scientists as they investigated what seeds need to grow. The class began by revisiting their knowledge of plant parts and discussing where plants grow. After watching a video about plants around the world, the children explored how plants grow best in spring and summer when there is more warmth, light and rain. The children were introduced to comparative tests, where one condition is changed while the others Read more

Linking Project

Yesterday, Year 4 Hawthorn visited St Peter’s Primary School to meet up with their linking partners, and everyone was thrilled to see their friends again. During the day, we took part in two exciting workshops. In the first, we worked with an artist to explore a range of printing techniques. Taking turns with our linking partners, we created drawings that represented ourselves and our families. We then learned how to transfer these designs onto tiles Read more

Using a protractor

This week in Year 5, we have been developing our understanding of angles by learning how to use a protractor. The children were excited to start using this new piece of equipment and approached the challenge with enthusiasm. To begin with, we explored the different parts of a protractor and discussed how it is used to measure angles accurately. The children quickly noticed that there are two sets of numbers, which led to some great Read more
