This week, our young scientists took on a very exciting challenge: could a balloon survive being placed near a candle flame without popping? The experiment, called “The Flameproof Balloon,” amazed the children at home and helped them learn about how water can protect materials from heat.
Year 3 really enjoyed our trip to Church this morning to take part in some special Easter activities. Happy Easter everyone!
Today in DT, Year 1 created their final product – a healthy smoothie! We applied all the skills we’ve been learning and practising, including cutting, juicing, and blending, as well as using our taste-testing results to guide our choices. Working together with excellent teamwork, we successfully made our smoothies and, of course, enjoyed tasting our delicious creations at the end!
Main event: We have been talking about germ! With glitter on our hands, we moved around the classroom so we could see how easy it is to spread the glitter (germs) around. KS2 were treated to a fantastic performance of The Jungle Book by M&M theatre company. All of the children really enjoyed the show and Year 6 were able to take part in a workshop afterwards.
In science, we have been learning all about light and shadows. This week we had a go at creating shadow puppets by using our hands to tell stories.

After winning the Rochdale Dance Festival, St Luke’s were invited to attend the Greater Manchester Dance Festival at The Edge in Wigan. During the day, the children watched professional dancers perform and took part in three different workshops, including contemporary and carnival. In Geography, we have been learning about animals from around the world. In today’s lesson, we used the internet to research a variety of animals in preparation for creating a fact file on a chosen animal next week. We explored key questions such as: “Where do they live?”, “What do they eat?”, and “What are their babies called?” We worked really using our skills builders teamwork, speaking and listening.
