Celebrating Holi

Reception have been learning about the festival of colour, Holi. To celebrate the festival, we have had a messy play afternoon today. We all went outside and chose different coloured powders to throw onto the floor and used chalk to create beautiful colours and patterns. We shouted “Holi Hai, Holi Hai” whilst doing this. Reception have loved celebrating the festival of colour.

Sculpture

This half term we are looking at 3D Art and sculpture as part of our Art topic. In this lesson we used cardboard to construct a sculpture and thought carefully about what 2D and 3D shapes would fit together no how to ensure they could stand up. We used out problem solving skills and growth mindset to create the sculptures with our partners.

Structures-Baby Bear’s chair

We have been exploring strengths in different structures. We used card to make cylinders, triangular prisms and cuboids. We tested the structures by putting one book at a time onto each structure before it collapsed. We found that the cylinders were the strongest because they don’t have corners.  This experiment will help us when we are going to design and make a chair for baby bear.

Being My Best

This week we have been talking about ‘being my best’ in our SCARF lessons. We read a story where a girl called Ruby was going to give up. So we all thought of some nice messages to encourage her to keep trying and not to give up. Everyone then acted out the story and thought about how it is was important to never give up, even if we find something hard.

This week we have started a 10 minute reading activity where we picked a book and read it with our partner. We then discussed if Read more…

Science – Electrical Circuits

In our science lesson today, Year 5 have been exploring with components of electrical circuits to learn about the flow of electricity and how it compares with static electricity. Children were able to identify the different components of electrical circuits and discover the conditions for electricity to flow which makes the components work. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the practical activity in which children made lightbulbs light up, buzzers make sounds and made motors’ spin. Children also Read more…

World Book day

We had a fantastic day for world book day. All our costumes looked amazing! We took part in a Teach active lesson where we looked at persuasive letter features. We then wrote a letter in role of Sir David Attenborough, a courageous advocate, trying to persuade St Luke’s School to make us their role mode. We also took part in BBCs live lesson.
