Year 4 have been busy this morning representing 1000s, 100s, 10s and 1s using counters. There was some excellent discussion using mathematical words. We have even worked on challenges in groups to solve problems.

Year 3 have been archaeologists this afternoon, excavating Stone Age artifacts from sand. The children were tasked with finding and evaluation what the purpose and origin of the artifact was. The children did a fantastic job. Here are some pictures of our afternoon.
Today, we have all had our first lunch in school. Everyone did really and thought the lunch was yummy! Well done Reception!
Today the children stayed for their dinner for the first time. They were all really sensible and grown up, collecting their own dinner and pudding.
What a fantastic first full week we had in Year 3 Birch. Miss Lomax is really pleased with how well the class has settled in and how hard they are working. In Year 6, we have been looking at The Writing Revolution strategies to help improve our writing. We have looked at using 4-sentence paragraphs to help write short explanations, include a variety of sentences and interesting introductions for texts. We used them to write propaganda messages and also introduce a text about evacuees. We have also look at using kernel sentences to help build information into complex sentences. Year 6 have been looking at some of the messages sent during WW2, in particular propaganda messages from Axis and Allied leaders. We looked at the messages behind each and decided if they were a truthful message and if they would mislead the public about the war. We used our Writing Revolution 4-sentence paragraphs to describe what each meant, and create our own propaganda messages.
Year 6 were lucky to have PLP visit us and talk to us about the building work and some of the science behind it. We discussed how to build structures and had the chance to use wooden rods and elastic bands to build stable structures. We were also treated to a virtual reality tour. This morning Maple have been busy building! A lady from the school building project carried out a session with us all about ‘Structures’. We had to make tetrahedrons using the wooden sticks. We then got busy trying to make the biggest structure we could with them. The children all had a great time and were very competitive with each other!
We have had a special visitor this week! Ruby the cockerpoo! We had so much fun feeding her treats and getting her to do tricks! Our Governor, Mrs Coxell, brought her wonderful, friendly dog in to start our Paws, Claws and Whiskers topic off nicely. What a treat!
