Careers Fair

Today, Year 5 and 6 at St Luke’s had the opportunity to attend a careers fair. We had visitors from all different types of careers to talk to us about what they do, what qualifications they needed to gain, how they got into their job role and why they enjoy their job. We had visits from nurses and doctors, construction workers, estate agents, photographers, members of the clergy, driving instructors and accountants. The children all Read more

Art Club Week 3 – Roy Lichtenstein style, Ben-Day dots portraits

This week in Art Club we took our inspiration from Roy Lichtenstein. Roy Lichtenstein is famous for using Ben-Day dots in his artwork, a technique used to create a pop art aesthetic. The children used carbon copy paper and tracing paper to transfer pictures of themselves onto their blank paper. We then used cotton buds to help us create the Ben-Day dot style. Another great week, well done Art Club!

Careers Fair

Today Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity to learn about different careers from industry professionals. The children had a great time learning about jobs such as photography, nursing, being a member of the clergy, a doctor and many more. The children have learnt so much and we have lots of new ideas and aspirations. Thank you to our amazing volunteers who made the morning so memorable.

Hearing music in colour

Pine have been ‘hearing music in colour’! We’ve learnt about a condition called ‘Synthesia’ in which people can see colour when they hear music. We listened to numerous pieces of music, holding up colour cards to say what colour we thought of when we heard it. We then learnt about ‘graphic scores’ – recording on paper the colours we see when listening to music. Have a look at some of our attempts!

Art Club Week 2 – Watercolours

This week art club was on the same day as National Sea Turtle Day so we thought it would be a good idea to bring out the watercolours. The children carefully followed a draw along then used watercolours to paint their turtles. The children practised using different techniques such as wet on wet and wet on dry. The results are amazing, well done Art Club!

The Great Science Share 2025!

The Great Science Share is an annual event, aimed at inspiring children to share scientific questions with new audiences. Bowlee Park Primary School hosted the event. Each school had a group of 10 pupils’ conducting a range of different Science experiments. All of the pupils were superstars and we will look forward to taking part next year.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This week we had a surprise parcel left in Reception. When we opened the parcel we found lots of different foods and leaves. Everyone was guessing what story we could be learning about this week and we found the book for… The Hungry Caterpillar. We even found our own caterpillars in the bag! It was very exciting! We are all looking forward to learning about The Hungry Caterpillar.

WOW’s and OW’s

During this week’s lesson, we used our R.E. lesson to explore our local area in Heywood to think about the ‘wows’ and ‘ows’ of our world. We discussed the amazing things in the natural world that we could see and hear (wows) as well as looking out for anything we thought wasn’t as amazing (ows). We imagined we were seeing the planet for the first time and how humans might be treating it well or Read more

Caring for the Environment

Today, Year 5 Juniper started their new R.E. topic looking at how different faiths care for the environment. We discussed what things help our environment be cared for (wows) and how certain things are bad for the environment (ows). To support our research, we went on a walk through Queen’s Park to look for environmental things that would either make us say Wow! or Ow! The children were fantastic and found lots of wows (supporting Read more
